and a point that actually was supposed to live, but Lucas decided that Obi-Wan is surplus to requirements so to speak! see you as part of the evolution of Luke as a hero Obi-Wan had to die because Lucas realized that once off the Death Star Obi-Wan would have nothing to do and just stand around doing nothing, Lucas realized he could not have a character that was so important, vital and powerful than just essentially standing around doing nothing, so unfortunately had to kill him! alec guiness almost stopped the movie about this!
